Build up of bacteria will result in the formation of plaque. If not treated early, you develop an early stage of gum disease known as gingivitis.

– Red, swollen, tender gums
What increases your risk of developing gingivitis?

– Diabetes
– Medications such as, steroids, some anti-epilepsy drugs, some calcium channel blockers, cancer therapy drugs and oral contraceptives
